Stories at NMC

Any organization is the sum of its individuals. Below please find some stories about our employees and why we’re a great place to work.

Just Right (We Do That Here)

It’s hard to put it into words, but you can feel it when you walk in the halls of any given hospital.  Some places feel like you’re in the belly of a large institution.  Some places just make you feel comfortable — like you’re at home.  That’s the way many people feel about Northwestern.  Perhaps it comes out of our rural heritage.  It may be due to the fact that we are a closely knit community, where we have a long tradition of serving different generations of families.

Beyond being a great place to receive medical care; we’re also a great place to work. With a fun, caring and nationally award-winning work environment, we’ve got a great thing going on here at Northwestern.

More Family (The Dan McCoy Story)

There’s no greater blessing than the gifts you make as a parent to your children.  So it is with Dan McCoy, who has worked in our IT Department for 13 years.  He’s an Eagle Scout, an honor he shares with his son, Sean.  Deeply involved with Troop 70 in St. Albans, Dan credits NMC with allowing him to spend time with his son and the other scouts in the area.

More Fun (at the Maple Festival)

Most hospitals behave like institutions.  They can be stodgy.  They can be boring.  They have trouble thinking outside the box.  At NMC, we’re a little bit different,  which is why, during the most recent Maple Festival Parade in downtown St. Albans, we made ourselves a float.  It celebrated our fourth consecutive year of national award-winning care (raising patient satisfaction to new heights!).  Over twenty of our staff and physicians marched that day. Fun!

More Service (The Laura Pawulak Story)

Laura Pawulak has been at Northwestern for twelve years, currently working as a Shift Administrator.  In her off hours she also serves as a Major in the Vermont National Guard tending to soldiers’ medical needs. When she served for a year in Kuwait, everybody supported her deployment. She tells us she feels the same camaraderie at Northwestern that she finds in the Army.

More Community (The Mark Sutton Story)

One of the great benefits of working in Vermont is the deep ties you make within your local community.  Take Mark Sutton, our head of Diagnostic Imaging, for example.  He’s been volunteering as a firefighter since he was 17... so he’s now been at it for over 30 years, first in Massachusetts, now in Worcester, VT.  Mark is typical of the kind of people who do well at NMC; down to earth, interested in making a difference and giving back.

More Flexibility (The Gino Farinaccio & Nelly DePonte Story)

Gino Farinaccio has been working at Northwestern for three years.  He was recruited by his wife Nelly, who has worked at Northwestern for six.  As the parents of three children (Nicolas, Joshua & Karina), Nelly and Gino appreciate the flexible scheduling that Northwestern provides them as “hockey parents”.
